straddle carrier monument, 2020

Competition proposal for a monument for 'straddle carrier 705'. Straddle carriers are those iconic engines who lift and carry containers mostly seen in the harbour. The largest container handler in the port of Antwerp wanted a monument for one of their oldest carriers. Our proposal consists in lifting the carrier up double as high as before and to integrate 7 containers. Together with the stairs the containers are functioning as stepping stones towards the top of the carrier where visitors can have a view over the harbour.
